ON THE FARM

The Grounds

West Hollowcombe Farm is set within the glorious landscape of Exmoor National Park, just a short drive from the charming town of Dulverton. The cottages are beautifully converted stone barns located on our family farm, surrounded by 60 acres of fields, woodland and riverside to explore. The land is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), home to a rich variety of rare plants and wildlife. Our woodland, in existence for over 400 years, is recognised as ancient woodland, creating a truly unique and atmospheric place to wander and discover.

Each property benefits from its own outdoor seating area and BBQ, all positioned to make the most of the far-reaching valley views. For younger guests, there is an on-site adventure playground to enjoy.

The Night Sky

Exmoor is one of the few places in England where exceptionally low levels of light pollution allow you to truly experience the beauty of the night sky. In recognition of this, Exmoor was designated Europe’s first International Dark Sky Reserve by the International Dark-Sky Association, a reflection of just how special the night skies are here.

Stargazing can be enjoyed at any time of year. On a clear night, you’ll see an extraordinary display of stars, constellations and on the right evenings, even the Milky Way stretching across the sky.

Visit our animals

From time to time we are lucky enough to have a wonderful cast of farm animals calling the farm home, from curious pigs and strutting turkeys to our hens and their fluffy chicks. If we are about during your stay, we would be delighted to take you on a little tour so you can meet them properly. Guests are very welcome to help us feed them, collect eggs and enjoy a hands-on taste of farm life. It is always a hit with children and, truth be told, adults seem to love it just as much.

Local Walks

We’re incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by some of Exmoor’s most beautiful countryside, with countless walks available straight from the doorstep. From open moorland and ancient woodland to riverside trails rich in wildlife and history, the area offers something for every pace and ability. Some of the standout local routes include:

Tarr Steps to Withypool: A classic Exmoor walk that can be accessed directly from the farm, taking in the iconic clapper bridge, wooded valleys and open moor.

Landacre Bridge: A picturesque starting point with a variety of circular walks through rolling countryside and along the River Barle.

Withypool to Simonsbath: A dramatic and rewarding route through the heart of Exmoor — a favourite for those seeking a longer, more adventurous day on foot.

The Valley of the Rocks: One of Exmoor’s most striking coastal landscapes, offering spectacular cliffside walks, wild goats and far-reaching views across the Bristol Channel. Routes here range from gentle coastal strolls to more rugged circular hikes.

You’ll find a wider selection of suggested walking routes on the link below. If you’re looking for something specific, whether family-friendly strolls or more challenging hikes, please don’t hesitate to ask, we’re always happy to recommend our favourites.

Cycle Routes

There are some excellent cycling routes around Dulverton and across Exmoor though we should warn you, the hills are part of the experience!

For those who enjoy a challenge, some of the area’s most celebrated climbs include both roads rising out of Porlock Weir: The Toll Road and the main Porlock Hill route, each offering spectacular coastal views. The coastal road between Porlock and Lynmouth, along with the dramatic ride through the Valley of Rocks, are also standout routes, combining demanding ascents with unforgettable scenery. Closer to home, Withypool Hill is a genuine lung buster and stunning climb.
